A good Rosary app does one thing well: it helps you pray. It keeps your place, gives you the words when you need them and gets out of the way. A bad one buries the prayer under menus, ads and notifications.
We make one of the apps below, Our Father, so we have an obvious bias. We’ve tried to be fair anyway, and to explain who each app is really for. Prices are the U.S. App Store prices as of October 2026 and can change, so check the App Store before you buy.
What makes a good Rosary app
Before comparing apps, it helps to know what matters. These are the questions worth asking:
- Guided or self-paced? Some apps lead the Rosary aloud; others show the text and let you pray at your own pace. Audio is wonderful for walks, drives and learning the prayers. Text suits silent prayer.
- Does it work offline and with the screen locked? You’ll often pray in the car, at church or on a walk. An app that stops when your screen turns off is frustrating.
- Can you pray the responses yourself? In a parish Rosary, the leader prays the first half and everyone answers. Some apps support this; most don’t.
- Does it keep your place? Life interrupts. A good app lets you stop mid-decade and continue later.
- Is it calm? Ads, streak pressure and constant pop-ups work against prayer.
- What happens to your data? A prayer app may hold your intentions and journal. Look for apps that don’t track you.
- Is the price fair? Free, one-time purchase and subscription are all reasonable, depending on how much the app offers.
1. Our Father: best for a calm, guided Rosary every day
Price: free for 7 days, then $4.99/month or $39.99/year · iPhone
Our Father is built around the guided Rosary. A calm, unhurried voice prays every prayer of all twenty mysteries while each word lights up on screen, and beads track your progress through each decade. You can let the voice pray everything, or switch it to Leads so it prays the first half of each prayer and leaves a silence for your response, as in a parish Rosary.
Beyond the Rosary it includes a new narrated reflection every morning (about three minutes, following the Church’s calendar), the complete Catholic Bible with all 73 books, a private prayer journal and a gentle count of your days of prayer. The narration is recorded into the app, so it works offline and keeps playing with the screen locked. There are no ads and no tracking.
Best for: anyone who wants to pray the Rosary daily with a guide, and likes a quiet, focused app. Keep in mind: it is iPhone only for now, and it costs money after the trial.
2. Hallow: best for a large library of guided prayer
Price: free to download; subscription about $9.99/month or $69.99/year after a free trial · iPhone and Android
Hallow is the best-known Catholic prayer app, with a very large library: guided Rosaries in several voices, meditations, Scripture, sleep content, music and seasonal prayer challenges. If you want lots of variety and well-known guest voices, Hallow has the most.
Best for: people who want a wide range of guided Catholic content, not just the Rosary. Keep in mind: it’s the most expensive option here, and the sheer amount of content can feel like a lot if you only want to pray the Rosary.
3. Laudate: best free all-in-one Catholic app
Price: free · iPhone and Android
Laudate is a long-running free app packed with Catholic resources: the Rosary in several languages, daily Mass readings, the Liturgy of the Hours, prayers, the Catechism and more. It’s a reference library more than a guided experience.
Best for: anyone who wants many Catholic resources in one free app. Keep in mind: with so much in one place, the design can feel busy, and the Rosary is one feature among many rather than the focus.
4. iRosary: best simple, one-time purchase
Price: about $2.99, one time
iRosary does one job: it helps you pray the Rosary bead by bead, showing where you are and the prayer to say. No subscription, no extras.
Best for: people who know the prayers and just want a digital rosary to keep count. Keep in mind: it’s a counter and text, not a guided voice or a daily companion.
5. Latria: best for the Scriptural Rosary
Price: free; full access about $2.99/month or $29.99/year
Latria pairs a Catholic Bible with commentaries, and includes a Scriptural Rosary, where a Bible verse is read before each Hail Mary. If you love studying Scripture, it’s a thoughtful option.
Best for: Scripture-focused Catholics who want Bible study and a Scriptural Rosary in one app. Keep in mind: its strength is study; the Rosary is not the center of the app.

Is there a good free Rosary app?
Yes. Laudate is free and covers the Rosary along with many other prayers. If you want a guided voice and a calm, ad-free design, most apps that offer it charge a subscription, because recording and maintaining good narration costs money. Many, including Our Father, offer a free trial, so you can pray with them for a week before deciding.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Rosary app for beginners?
For beginners, a guided app helps most, because you hear every prayer in order and can pray along until you know them by heart. Our Father and Hallow both guide the whole Rosary aloud; Our Father focuses on the Rosary and a daily routine, while Hallow offers a broader library.
Can I pray the Rosary on my phone without internet?
Yes, with the right app. In Our Father, the Rosary narration is stored on your iPhone, so it works offline and keeps playing with the screen locked. Text-based apps like iRosary also work offline.
Is it okay to pray the Rosary with an app instead of beads?
Yes. The Church has never required physical beads. Beads, fingers and apps are all ways of keeping count. What matters is that you pray with attention and love.
Are Rosary apps safe for my privacy?
It depends on the app. Check the privacy label on each app’s App Store page. Our Father collects no data: there’s no account, no ads and no tracking, and your journal syncs only through your own private iCloud.
